Today, the Britannia coins are among the premier names in precious metal coinage. And while the bullion edition of the Britannia has kept its same design since 2013, each year brings an exciting new design to the Britannia Proof releases—and this year is no different! With a new contemporary design, we’re proud to bring you this 2024 Silver Britannia Two-Piece Proof Set that features both the Proof and Reverse Proof finishes!
A Regal Profile Of Brave Britannia
This year’s new, one-year-only reverse design was created by Marie-Alice Harel, an award-winning French author and illustrator based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It displays the proud profile of Britannia steadfastly staring down plunging waves ready to crash down on the English coast. Harel, who was a Geosciences PhD and researcher before becoming a full-time illustrator, is noted for the playful way she combines images and stories. Look closely and you’ll see that style in the way that the plume of Britannia’s helmet flows into the waves in a symbolic representation of her historic connection with the sea. It’ makes for a wonderful pair of coins in Proof and Reverse Proof condition:
- A One-Ounce Silver Proof. Struck in 99.9% silver, it was expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields.
- A One-Ounce Silver Reverse Proof. Struck in 99.9% silver, to achieve a reverse proof effect, a coin is struck with mirrored details fields rising over frosted fields—the opposite of a traditional proof finish.
